Dengue claims the life of a pregnant mother and her baby

COLOMBO (News 1st):- A pregnant mother had died of a fever after she was admitted to the Kinnya Base Hospital in Trincomalee. Doctors had attempted to save her baby however they have been unsuccessful. The mother was admitted to the Kinnya base hospital for a few days when she was suffering from fever. She was transferred to the Trincomalee base hospital for further treatment where she passed away. 21-year-old Fatima Mizmiya, a resident of Mancholai, passed away after doctors failed to save her seven-month-old fetus. Director of the Kinnya base Hospital, Dr A. M. M Jiffery says that by the 12th of this year that 56 such incidents have been reported. He further says that the pregnant mother who was transferred yesterday to the Trincomalee hospital passed away. He also highlighted the dire need to completely eradicate dengue, so that incidents as such would not be repeated.
