COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna presidential candidate, Gotabaya Rajapaksa attended a public rally held in Nivithigala, Ratnapura today (November 06). The public rally organized by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Organizer for the Nivithigala Electorate, Premalal Jayasekara, was attended by a large gathering of supporters of Gotabaya Rajapaksa including political representatives, civil organizations and party members. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Presidential Candidate of the SLPP: "Under our government, we will prioritize the development of the gem industry. Every province I visited has a drinking water crisis. We will create projects for clean drinking water. Waste management is very important for every city. This issue will be given priority centring around the Pradeshiya Sabhas. When I asked the people who are here at this rally what they need, they wanted us to save this country, to protect it. You are well aware that we, who rid this country of terrorism and have a clear understanding of national security, we are the only ones who can prioritize and assure national security. Place your trust in me on the assurance that we would never allow terrorism to raise its head in this country ever again. " Presidential Candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Gotabaya Rajapaksa attended another public rally that was held in Kalawana, Ratnapura today. Gotabaya Rajapaksa: "This government is made up of Ministers who work according to the whims and fancies of foreign powers and NGOs. This government did not give priority to the security of this nation. Most of the people attending our rallies are women, we have given special attention to women in our manifesto. When I questioned residents in areas I visited and asked them what they needed, women come forward most of the time and tell me that they need a secure country. 200,000 pass A/Ls but only 30,000 are chosen to attend universities. This is our future. It is not satisfactory. Within the first year under our Government, we will provide all those who pass A/Ls with the opportunity to attend university. I give you my word, it can be done, it is practical. We increased the number of troops in the army by 300,000 within 2 years. If we can grow the size of our army, why can't we allow 100,000 students to enter universities?"
