  1. Lanka IOC has reduced the prices of “Lanka Petrol 92 Octane (LP92)” and “Xtra Premium Euro-3 Petrol” by Rs 2 per litre with effect from midnight yesterday (October 10). However, the price of “Lanka Auto Diesel (LAD)”, “Xtra Premium 95 Petrol”, “Lanka Super Diesel (Euro 4)” and “XTRAMILE Diesel” remain unchanged.
  2. The inaugural rally of the New Democratic Front presidential election campaign was held at Galle Face Green yesterday (October 10). Addressing the people gathered, Presidential candidate of the Democratic Front, Sajith Premadasa assures "We will not make room for thievery in this new Sri Lanka we create. We will not let fraud and corruption take place".
  3. The Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna reached a memorandum of understanding on the upcoming Presidential elections yesterday (October 10).
  4. Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga in a post on her Facebook page has called out to the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Dayasiri Jayasekara, to refrain from considering only personal interests and allowing the SLFP to be destroyed.
  5. The presidential candidate of the SLPP Gotabaya Rajapaksa who is currently undergoing medical treatment in Singapore is due to hold discussions with TNA MP M.A. Sumanthiran on the national issues faced by the Tamil people of the country.
  6. As the strike action launched by the non-academic staff of state universities enters the 33rd day, the union representatives state that they are due to hold a special meeting today (October 11) to discuss the cabinet recommendation to remove the existing wage anomalies.
  7. Voting for the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha elections begins at 7:00 am today (October 11) in over 47 voting centres. 53,384 people have been deemed eligible to vote at this election.
  8. The Meenagaya train plying from Batticaloa to Colombo Fort has derailed in the area between Welikanda and Punani due to three elephants colliding with the train.
  9. The Department of Meteorology states that most areas in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, Southern, North Central and North Eastern provinces and in the Mannar and Jaffna districts would experience heavy showers of about 75 - 100 mm.
  10. Shanika Dissanayake has been appointed as the Ambassador-designate of Sri Lanka to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Ambassador-designate Dissanayake had served as Director-General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka prior to taking up her assignment in Jordan.
