COLOMBO (News 1st) - The symbol to be used to contest the upcoming polls has become an issue to form the SLFP-SLPP Alliance after SLFP Dayasiri Jayasekera said the flower bud cannot be the symbol of the alliance. Professor G. L. Peiris, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna noted that the flower bud has become a beacon for the people of this country. He added that it was unwise to reject a strong symbol which people are already accustomed to in the upcoming decisive election. MP Udaya Gammanpila, Leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya stated that the flower bud of the SLPP will symbolize the presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa. He claimed that the SLFP does not have the right to demand it. He finally added that if the SLFP is to focus on trivial matters they would end up in a garbage dump in the history of Sri Lanka. Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, Chief Minister of Uva Province noted that both parties should be honoured. He added that SLPP is the vendor in the market with the manager while SLFP is the customer. He went on to note that no customer would purchase for the price mentioned at the market and no vendor would sell their goods for the price customer demands. He added that however, the customer has the alternative of finding another vendor for their shopping.
