NEC instructs 7 renowned parties to resolve their issues

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Election Commission has advised 7 renowned political parties in the country to overcome the current crisis situation in the coming 3 months. According to a spokesperson at the National Elections Commission, the relevant instructions were given to the representatives of the respective parties after they were called to the National Elections Commission yesterday (September 09). It was reported that various issues such as seeking court justice to determine the ownership of the party, several groups claiming the ownership of the same party and several secretaries representing the same party have led to a crisis. It is reported that 7 parties including the All Ceylon People's Congress, The Liberal Party and The Democratic Front are currently plagued by these issues. Furthermore, the National Election Commission stated, if these respective parties do not take steps to solve these issues within the next 3 months, the Commission will not hesitate to exclude these parties from the list of renowned, registered parties in the country. According to the National Elections Commission, there are 70 political parties registered in Sri Lanka.
