Ex Acting General Manager of Lanka Sathosa found guilty; released on bail

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Colombo Chief Magistrate released the former acting General Manager of Lanka Sathosa Wimal Perera on a surety of Rs 300,000 as he would be filing an appeal with the High Court against the one-year prison sentence imposed on him. This morning the former acting General Manager of Lanka Sathosa was fined Rs 50,000 and sentenced to one year in prison by the Colombo Chief Magistrate after he was found guilty of corruption. A case was filed against the accused of causing a loss of Rs 4mn to the government by selling rice imported for Lanka Sathosa to the private sector in 2002. The court ruled the accused was guilty of corruption under article 70 of the Bribery Act.
