COLOMBO (News 1st): A group of traditional dancers and shamen attached to the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna arrived at the Battaramulla Party office today (August 2). The group then bestowed blessings on Basil Rajapaksa and others. Speaking to the media, Basil Rajapaksa spoke about the current situation of politics in the country. The UNP is planning to create an alliance in the next few days. Will that be a challenge of any form? The former minister responded that this alliance is a comparatively smaller alliance compared to the one formed in 2015 and that they have even taken individuals as members of this alliance since they do not have enough parties. When the former minister was questioned on the Presidential candidate and whether or not he was aware that he will not be the candidate, he only responded that he was aware of it. There was a rumour saying you renounced your US citizenship? To this, the former minister only said that he will inform the media and the country if he does so, but that his decision is not to do so. He further said that if Gotabaya Rajapaksa is brought forward as the candidate that he will extend his complete support and that they are also ready for anything that Mahinda Rajapksa says. What will happen regarding the ACSA and SOFA agreements if your government comes into power? Basil Rajapaksa responds saying that their stance is that these agreements should not be reached and that he makes a request from the government to let the people decide on the matter since there are only 100 days more. He added that their party is not ready to live in isolation. Meanwhile, the Convenor of the National Peoples Council, Chameera Perera speaking on Basil Rajapaksa said the latter is doing all sorts of things at the SLPP offices and that it is all being justified. He further said that they all do these things when they are scared because he sees Lasantha Wickramathunga, Thajudeen, the innocent people in Rathupassawela, the inmates of the Welikada prison in his dreams. He says that they follow these rituals and myths only when they are scared of all what they have done. Perera added that the Rajapaksas are scared because this is a time where all the things they did are now following them.
