COLOMBO (News 1st) - The felicitation ceremony of the parliamentary committee on public accounts was held today (July 05) and President Maithripala Siresena presided over the event. The President noted that the formation of presidential commissions of inquiry to probe corruption, fraud and irregularities had served its purpose over time. He added that he was informed that not even the ministers, government employees themselves frett over the commissions as any misconduct would lead to presenting themselves before a commission. He noted that this was good news as officials and ministers alike were forced to a state where they are hesitant to engage in fraudulent activities. He added that this could be implemented to the entire country by imposing a law where everyone was equal under it. President Sirisena added that the only flaw in the commissions were delays in disciplinary actions against state employees. He went on to note that a number of state institutes in the country are extremely corrupt and none of them will receive awards at the event. President Maithripala Sirisena presented gold awards to the Office of the Prime Minister, the Auditor General's Department, the Bribery Commission, the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development along with a number of other institutions as nominated by the Committee on public accounts.
