Indictment against Senior DIG Anurudhdha Lalith Jayasinghe for helping Swiss Kumar

Colombo (News 1st): An indictment against Senior DIG Anurudhdha Lalith Jayasinghe was forwarded to the Jaffna High Court today (May 24) by the Attorney General for assisting Mahalingam Shashikumar, the principal offender in the murder and rape of Vidya Sivaloganatha. The case which was heard by trial-at-bar in the Jaffna High Court rocked the nation in 2015. This was confirmed to News 1st by State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, the Coordinating Officer to the Attorney General. Senior DIG Jayasinghe is charged with knowing or having reason to believe the accused had committed a crime and had screened the offender of the case, Mahalingam Shashikumar also known as Swiss Kumar, from legal punishment. The indictment reads, the Senior DIG committed an offence punishable under section 209 of the Penal Code. Swiss Kumar was arrested by a Special Jaffna Police Team on May 18th, 2018.
