COLOMBO (News 1st): Parliamentarians from the opposition and the government engaged in a debate in parliament over the select committee appointed to look into the 04/21 terror attacks. Speaking in parliament Leader of the House Minister Lakshman Kiriella claimed that since they have nothing to hide that they invite the media for the select committee as per standing orders. In response, Non-Cabinet Minister of Digital Infrastructure and Information Technology Ajith P. Perera said that not only proceedings of this committee but special committees in parliament will also be made public through media. UNP MP Professor Ashu Marasinghe noted that the people are reprimanding all 225 as wrong-doers and that the good work done does not reach the people, to which the Speaker said that there would be a special media unit that will be established in the parliament in the coming week after which these issues could be rectified. UPFA MP Dayasiri Jayasekara speaking on the no-confidence motion brought against Minister Rishard Bathiudeen said that what is needed to be discussed is the 04/21 attack and not the impact of it on the minister. He continued to say that what the government is attempting to do is to first to clear Bathiudeen and then bring in the no-confidence motion.
