Parliament convenes today: Disagreement over NCM

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Parliament is to reconvene at 10.30 am today (May 23) where two no-confidence motions are pending, one is against Minister Rishard Bathiudeen while the other is against the government. The ruling party believes a select committee has to be appointed and the April 21st attacks have to be investigated prior to taking up the no-confidence motion against Minister Bathiudeen up for debate. The opposition, on the other hand, believes that the no-confidence motion against Minister Bathiudeen has to be taken up for debate. Tension brew-up over this disagreement yesterday (May 22) and the speaker announced parliament to be adjourned until 10.30 am today (May 23). Despite the opposition's objections it was approved to appoint a select committee.
