COLOMBO (News 1st) - MP Udaya Gammanpila shared his thoughts on the IGP's refusal to step down from his position although it has been 2 weeks since the president's request for IGP's resignation. Udaya Gammanpila, Leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya noted that the IGP does not resign as he knows that if he does not step down, the responsibility of removing him from his office would fall to the majority of the parliament. "As per the Removal of Officers Procedure Act No. 5 of 2002, if the IGP is to be removed, 113 MPs must approve the proposal." The MP went on to note that IGP knows that UNP holds the majority in the parliament and he is safe. He questioned why the IGP is confident that he is safe and the UNP will support him? "Maybe he is protecting their secrets" he concluded.
