Tear gas and water cannons used to disperse Inter-University protest

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse a protest organized by the Inter-University Students Federation this evening (February 21). The police dispersed the crowd at the Ceramic junction when the protesters started moving towards the Presidential Secretariat without paying heed to the orders of the Police. The university students protest focussed on many demands including the removal of suspension of lectures for the students of the South Eastern University. The protest commenced at the Technical junction at noon today (February 21).
