COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau states that the issuing of sand mining licenses in the Trincomalee District will be temporarily suspended from tomorrow (February 15).
Senior Director Sajjana de Silva of the bureau mentioned that all sand mining licenses would be suspended from tomorrow till the 28th of this month.
The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau has taken this action due to irregular sand mining and considering complaints received regarding the environmental destruction in the Trincomalee area.
Senior Director Sajjana de Silva said that a special team has been appointed to investigate the situation in the district.
The assigned team consists of the Ministry of Environment, Central Environmental Authority, Coast Conservation Department and Officers of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau.
