COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Department of Agriculture is to provide special training for farmers cultivating maize in the “Yala” season.
Deputy Director of the Department and head of the special unit to eradicate the Sena caterpillar Anura Wijethunge said that the training will be provided with the aim of containing the Sena menace at a minimal level and obtaining the maximum harvest.
A survey reveals that over 20% of the Maha season maize cultivation was destroyed due to the Sena caterpillar. Wijethunge added that 81,000 hectares of maize was cultivated for the Maha season.
