1. The
appropriation bill for the year 2019 was presented in
parliament yesterday (February 05) by Minister Lakshman Kiriella. The bill estimates
Rs. 4.55 trillion as the
government expenditure for the year.
2. The
Customs Trade Unions stated that over
6000 containers that were
stalled as a result of their trade union action will be
cleared within the next
three days. The trade union action concluded yesterday (February 05) following the government's decision to reinstate the former Director General.
3. Notorious drug peddler
"Makandure Madush" and 25 others were
arrested yesterday (February 05) in a hotel at Dubai.
4. It surfaced at the PCOI yesterday (February 05) that the former Sri Lankan Ambassador to the US,
Jaliya Wickramasuriya ordered a
chartered flight to travel from Washington to Mattala that costed over
Rs. 7.8 million. The bill was added to the expense of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
5. The
UPFA unanimously decided yesterday (February 05) to
oppose any vote for a
National government by the United National Party.

Public Services Commission of the
Central province has been
dissolved with immediate effect.

convene at
1.00 pm today (February 06). They will debate the formation of a
National government.

Two people who arrived on a motorbike had
stolen a sum of
Rs. 210,800 from a
filling station in
Dompe.
10. As per the
"Doing Business" annual report of the
World Bank, Sri Lanka has been ranked as the
13th in Asia and the
100th in the world on the ease of doing business. The report is computed through 190 countries.
