Gamini Senarath withdraws FR petition

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Former Chairman of Litro Gas, Gamini Senarath withdrew the fundamental rights petition filed before the Supreme Court today (February 05). Gamini Senarath had filed this petition before the Supreme Court requesting for an order to be issued declaring that the Permanent High Court Trial at Bar does not have the authority to hear the case filed against him. The lawyers representing Gamini Senarath had also made the request from the Permanent High Court Trial at Bar. The Permanent High Court Trial at Bar decided to take up the case declining the request. However today the lawyers representing Gamini Senerath informed the Supreme Court that the petition will be withdrawn holding the right to file a case based on future requirements. The fundamental rights petition was taken up today, before a five-member bench consisting of Justices Sisira De Abrew, Buwaneka Aluvihare, Priyantha Jayawardena, L.T.B. Dehideniya and Murdu Fernando. The Attorney General had filed the case against Gamini Senarath and three others before the Permanent High Court Trial at Bar over several indictments including the misappropriation of Rs. 500 million belonging to Litro Gas.
