  1. Attorney for Arjun Aloysius, the beneficial owner of Perpetual Treasuries Limited, filed a request with the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court to name the Central Bank’s Senior Deputy Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe and Retired Deputy Governor Ananda Silva as suspects linked to the bond scam case, citing that it is a recommendation of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry as well.

  2. COPE presented another report to parliament on Thursday(January 24) relating to the performance of 17 state institutions, including Sri Lankan Airlines between the time frame from the 1st of July to the 30th September 2017. The report revealed that many state institutions are running at a loss.

  3. Chairman of COPE JVP Parliamentarian Sunil Handunetti speaking in Parliament on Thursday (Jan 24), requested that the proceedings of COPE and COPA be opened for the media. He added this should be done so the committees carry out the work in an accountable and transparent manner.

  10. US National Security Adviser John Bolton notes that the Trump administration is trying to cut Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro's revenue streams. The comments come one day after Maduro cut diplomatic ties with the US, after the US recognized opposition figure, Juan Guaidó, as interim president.
