COLOMBO (News 1st): UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera told the media today (December 26) that it is everyone's responsibility to unite the UPFA. "I believe that this will become a reality in the future," said Amaraweera. He said that there is no point in talking about national problems or the international community, because "these forces will rise against us if we act divided". "If the UPFA is to be strengthened, we must all act together and unite the party, and this is why, on behalf of everyone's' protection, we have presented all the required documents unconditionally," he added. These views were expressed during the 15th commemoration of the former Mayor of Kotte, Attorney Chandra de Silva, which was held today with the participation of several SLFP frontline activists. UPFA MP (PC) Faizer Mustapha also spoke to the media and stated that nobody can destroy the SLFP. He went on to point out that the SLFP is a political party which was created through the great forces of history, and is needed by the people of this country. "Our expectation is the further strengthening of the UPFA and SLFP. I believe that those who attempt to destroy the SLFP will be cursed by the people of this country," he added.
