SLTB employees receive salary increments after 6 years

Colombo (News 1st) - The salaries of SLTB employees have been increased after a lapse of 6 years. Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Nimal Siripala De Silva handed over the documents to a group of SLTB employees symbolically today (November 10). The Ministry of Transport stated that the basic salary of drivers conductors mechanics laborers and security personnel will be increased from Rs. 14,250 to Rs. 25,550. Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva stated that the elections are around the corner and called on those present not to get the SLTB involved in the election campaign as this could lead to orders being issued by the Chairman of the Elections Commission. The minister also urged those present not to misuse SLTB property during the election period. During the runup to the 2015 presidential election, one of the charges levelled at then President Mahinda Rajapaksa was the misuse of SLTB property during the campaign. When questioned wether money that was due to the SLTB would be recovered from Rajapaksa, Minister de Silva noted that it was the SLFP that had used the buses and that legal action is underway.
