Colombo (News1st): The Sri Lanka Navy with the assistance of the USA Navy rescued seven fishermen in distress, aboard a fishing boat with an engine failure, off the Galle harbor yesterday (October 09). The vessel had left the Galle harbor on 03rd October. The USS “Decatur”, an American warship which was sailing on a close passage had observed the distressed trawler and rescued it. Later, the US ship had reported this incident to the Maritime Rescue Coordinating Centre (MRCC) in Colombo. The Navy then deployed SLNS Jayasagara from the Southern Naval Command to rescue the fishermen and the trawler. Subsequently, the fishermen rescued by the American warship USS “Decatur” were taken over by SLNS Jayasagara about 130 nautical miles south of Galle harbor and the trawler was also safely towed to the Galle harbor.
