Colombo (News1st): Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya commenced Parliamentary proceedings on Tuesday (September 18) with a stern warning to all parliamentarians. He stated that as parliamentarians everyone is aware of the excessive amount spent on a single parliament session and it is very unfortunate to note the lack of quorum that has to lead to the inefficiency of the parliament at crucial moments. He highlighted that it is the constitutional duty of all MPs from the ruling party and the Opposition to ensure the quorum is maintained and request such unfortunate situations be prevented. As per the standing orders, the raised question should be answered at least on the third occasion and if the Minister is not present, the Deputy Minister must provide a response to that question, said Speaker Karu Jayasuriya adding that he also requested the questions to be posted in time for it to be answered.
