Bus strike enters its 2nd day

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The All Ceylon Private Bus Employees' Association said the strike action launched against increased fines imposed by the government will continue. The bus strike entered its second day today (August 17). Its organizer U.K. Kumararathne Renuka said authorities are yet to respond to their demands. The Private Bus Owners' Association is not taking part in this strike action, they state that their operations will continue as usual. Meanwhile Deputy General Manager of the SLTB R.T. Chandrasiri said that additional buses have been deployed in order to ease the burden on the public. Additional General Manager of Railways Vijaya Samarasekara said that they would increase the number of trains in operation as well.
