COLOMBO (News 1st) – A group of SLPP Colombo Municipal Councillors have threatened to take legal action against the council over the position of CMC Opposition Leader.
M. Manzil of the UPFA assumed duties as the Opposition leader of the CMC on Wednesday (August 1st) , the SLPP councillors expressed their opposition by walking out the chamber. They later held a media briefing opposite the Colombo Municipal Council.
SLPP Councillor of the SLPP, Dayakantha Perera stated that Mayor Rosy Senanayake is attempting to replicate the situation in Parliament, where R. Sampanthan has been appointed as the opposition leader. Perera claims that this allows the Government to continue with their actions unhindered. Perera added that the CMC Mayor appointed the Manzil as the Oppositiion leader for the same purpose.
