Peradeniya University closed down for two months due to unruly student behaviour

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The administration of the Peradeniya University has decided to close down the University for a period of two months, with immediate effect. Students have been instructed to vacate the hostel and the university premises before 6pm. (July 27). A spokesperson for the University administration stated that the decision was reached taking into consideration the security of students following an unruly situation that had arisen at the Engineering faculty. Engineering students at the Peradeniya University have been staging a protest for the past 32 days and had also forcefully stormed the administrative building of the University. They demand that four students who have failed to fulfil the required percentage of attendance be allowed to sit for the examination. The engineering students also engaged in a protest march yesterday, from Galaha Junction to Kandy.
