Negombo Prison drug ring busted

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Details have emerged of a large-scale drug ring that operated close to the Negombo prison. According to the Police, inmates at the prison had operated the drug ring through mobile phones. The Police were able to uncover 52 grams of Heroin based on information gleaned from the telephone conversations of inmates. 2 suspects have been arrested in connection to the drug ring. A senior officer of the Police Narcotics Bureau stated that similar drug operations are been carried out centering several prisons across the island. He further noted that special investigations have been launched to suppress these drug rings and to arrest persons connected to them.
