COLOMBO (News 1st) – Sri Lanka won the second Test against South Africa by 199 runs at the SSC and went on to secure victory of the test series (2-0) against the visitors.
Sri Lanka won the toss and posted a first innings score of 338 runs, the Proteas in reply managed to score only 124 runs. Sri Lanka hammered another 275 runs in their second innings for the loss of 5 wickets before declaring and setting a mammoth target of 490 runs.
The visitors only managed to score 290 runs before being bowled out. Veteran spinner Rangana Herath bagged six Proteas wickets for 98 runs while Dilruwan Perera and Akila Dhananjaya shared two wickets each.
Middle-order batsman TB de Bruyn played a sensible inning under pressure to score his maiden century (101). Temba Bavuma contributed with 63 runs as the only other successful batsman for South Africa.
Opener Dimuth Karunaratne who scored two half-centuries (53 & 85) was named the man of the match & the man of the series. Dimuth scored 356 runs in the two-match test series with an average of 118.66.
Sri Lanka won the 1st test against South Africa in Galle by 278 runs with two days left.
