CIABOC records statement against Min. Malik Samarawickrama

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) recorded a statement from the Former Mayor of Kotte, Janaka Ranawaka today (June 25) with regard to a complaint he has lodged against Minister Malik Samarawickrama. The Former Mayor of Kotte lodged the particular complaint on the 27th of February this year revealing an alleged illegal acquisition of land causing a massive loss to the government. After giving his statement to the Commission, the Former Mayor speaking to the media said, according to the government valuer, the value of the land in August 2013 was Rs. 180 million. He added that since there wasn't a road to go to this land, the Chairman of the Road Development Authority forcefully acquired 8 perches of the land belonging to the Kotte Municipal Council to build a road. Janaka Ranawaka said this caused a loss of Rs. 40 million to the Kotte Municipal Council. He said the value of this land in 2013 was 220 million, much more than what it is now. Furthermore, he stated that Minister Malik Samarawickrama is enjoying the benefits of this 220 million rupee land which he has forcefully acquired. Janaka Ranawaka has called on the Bribery Commission today to initiate legal action against Minister Malik Samarawickrama, the Chairman of the Urban Development Authority and the Commissioner of the Kotte Municipal Council.
