Strong winds batter houses in Kurunegala

Colombo (News1st) - A number of houses in the Wariyapola and Maaspotha Divisional Secretariat areas in the Kurunegala District were damaged after strong winds swept across the area. The strong winds were reported at about 1 this morning. Our correspondent said over 70 houses were damaged by the gale force winds. The windy conditions also disrupted the supply of power to areas such as Gallegama, Alupothagama and Gonagama. Meanwhile strong winds also caused damages to 10 houses in the Galewela divisional secretariat area. Our correspondent in the area added that the power lines in the area were damaged following the collapse of an earth embankment.
