Many children admitted to hospitals with a viral flu

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Office of the Southern Province Director of Health Services says the number of children being admitted to hospitals with a viral flu has increased. The Provincial Director of Health Services Dr. G. Wijesuriya said 350 patients are receiving in-house treatment at hospitals in the province for the viral flu. Dr. Wijesuriya said there appears to be a rise in the number of children being admitted to hospital, whereas, the number of adults being admitted to hospitals with the virus has seen a reduction. He added, around 800 patients have received treatment and has been discharged from hospitals. Dr. G. Wijesuriya said the situation will most likely be contained within the next two weeks adding there are no patients in critical condition. While urging the general public to remain vigilant, Dr. Wijesuriya said children who have been discharged from hospital after contracting a fever should be resting at home for a minimum of eight days.
