COLOMBO (News 1st) - Prior to the debate & vote on the No-Confidence Motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, members of the SLFP announced that the party will leave the consensus government if the PM does not step down before the NCM. Now that the PM has won the Motion against him, the SLFP's Central Committee is to reach a decision on withdrawing from the National Government, said former Min. S.B. Dissanayake after resigning from his ministerial portfolio. "We will make arrangements for our central committee to meet and accept our proposal to leave the government.", said former Min. S. B. Dissanayake (Treasurer - SLFP). Dissanayake said that the SLFP is planning to sit with the opposition during the next parliamentary session. He said that the party is hoping to obtain the people's mandate to establish a broader alliance. When asked if the SLFP will join the Joint Opposition to form a new government, he said "They are like our blood relatives. They are from our party. We were in discussions with them for the motion of no-confidence" The SLFP Treasurer also stated that one of the Rajapaksa's running for the next Presidential Election will be "a decision made by the broad alliance". He added that the SLFP will not have a problem with it. However, comments from other SLFP members contradicted the statements made by S.B. Dissanayake.
