COLOMBO (News 1st) – The annual holiday on International Workers’ Day which falls on Tuesday the 1st of May has been cancelled.
The gazette notification regarding this is due to be issued today (April 11). Head of Government Printers Department, Ganga Kalpani, said they have received the gazette notification to be issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The gazette notification adds that the holiday will be given on May 7th instead of May 1st. The cabinet decided to reschedule “May Day” to the 7th, following a request made by the Maha Sangha as Vesak falls on May 1st.
