COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Agrarian Services Commissioner W.M.M.W Weerasekara has made a decision to halt the reclamation of 406 acres land in Muthurajawela sanctuary which belongs to the Agrarian department.

He stated that an investigation on this is due to be conducted and a report will be presented to the president during the upcoming days.

The 406 acres of Muthrurajawekla sanctuary have been dumped with garbage. However, the farmers claim that these lands are paddy fields.

Previously the environmental groups accused the Agrarian commission of authorising a private company to dump the garbage into these fields.

The assistant commissioner agrarian attached to Pamunugama office has made a police complaint today (15th March) stating that Gampaha district assistant commissioner made a threat on her ordering not to get involved with the matter.

According to the Assistant Commissioner attached to the Pamunugama office, the Gampaha district assistant commissioner is said to be the official who authorized the private company to dump the garbage.
