COLOMBO (News1st) – Parliamentary debate on current political situation is currently underway.
The debate began at 4 pm today and will go on till 7 pm in the evening.
A request made by MP Dinesh Gunawardena lead to the ongoing debate in Parliament.
According to MP Gunawardene, the debate was requested for as it is a matter of “national importance”.
Furthermore, he said that the request to hold this debate today was made so attention can be focused on the particular crisis.
The debate proposal handed over to the Speaker bore signatures of 20 MPs.
“The entire country is focused on this, so we request that you grant us this opportunity. The government can also speak during this debate”, said MP Dinesh Gunawardene
The All Party Leaders Meeting commenced in Parliament under Speaker Karu Jayasuriya earlier today (February 19).
Following the Party Leaders meeting, the SLFP members met with the President.
Only Minister S.B. Dissanayake spoke to the media following the meeting, however, nothing significant was mentioned.
