From a team that almost did not qualify to the 2019 Cricket World Cup, Sri Lanka has turned around to be the very first team in 2018 to win an entire series with all three formats. Sri Lanka today claimed a comfortable 75 run victory against Bangladesh in the 2nd T20 match.

Sri Lankan Innings

Sri Lanka were in with the bat first and got off to a fantastic flying start. Dhanushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis articulated a fantastic 98 run opening partnership, before the former fell just short of a half century. Gunathilaka had scored 42 runs by the time he was dismissed by Soumya Sarkar. Then came the man with two steel arms, Thisara Perera -who rocketed into 31 runs which included one six and 3 boundaries before being dismissed. Kusal Mendis notched his second T20 half century of the series, before being eventually undone for 70 runs. His knock included 3 sixes and 6 boundaries. Finally a late blitz by Dasun Shanaka powered Sri Lanka to 210 runs for the loss of just 4 wickets in their 20 overs.

Bangladesh Innings

Hosting Bangladeshis had a mammoth task ahead, chasing a target as steep as 211 in 20 overs. The pressure on the team was crystal clear, seeing how the Sri Lankan bowlers swept through the host's batting camp regularly. Soumya Sarkar fought a solitary battle with a knock of 41 runs but was eventually run out. Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 135 runs in 18.4 overs. Shehan Madushanka and Danushka Gunathilaka Gunathilaka picked up 2 wickets a piece for Sri Lanka. For his fine form with the willow, Kusal Mendis picked up the man of the match and man of the series awards. This series is one Sri Lankan Cricket fans will definitely cherish after a horrendous 2017 year.
