UNP Provincial Councillor Srinath Perera, speaking to the media, stated that the top-tier leadership of the UNP must be responsible for the party’s loss in the polls.
According to Srinath Perera, it has been two and a half years since the UNP was elected to power. However, the people through this election showcased their frustration to the government over the failure to fulfill the promises made.
Furthermore, he stated that the top tier leadership of the party must be held responsible for this loss and that it does not only include the present leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and Malik Samarawickrama but many others as well.
He stated that this particular group steered the UNP for a long time and that people have opposed to that. Therefore, he stated that they are in need of a new group to take UNP forward.
Srinath Perera also stated that they need a group that understands the pulse of the people. Therefore, if a UNP government needs to be established, they need to have a new leadership to move forward.
