Unrest in Kegalle as reckless bus driver takes a life

A protest was staged against the reckless bus driver who took the life of a seven-year-old at Pindeniya area today, January 13.

Residents in Kegalle staged the demonstration obstructing the Kegalle – Awissawella main road from the Thoranagahapitiya area. The accident took place earlier this afternoon in Pindeniya area, leaving the girl’s grandmother and another girl injured.

According to the Police, the victim W.P. Chamudi, a second year student of the Arandara Primary School, was returning home after a private tuition class when the incident occurred. The injured grandmother and the girl were admitted at Kegalle Hospital and the driver of the bus has been arrested.

However, locals in the area launched a demonstration claiming Police did not take adequate action regarding the matter.
