Several Colombo train services cancelled as railway drivers strike action steams ahead

The services of three trains, with Chinese compartments, have been cancelled this morning, due to a trade union action by railway drivers and guards.

The Railway Control Room said, the Colombo – Batticaloa train that was scheduled to be operated at 6:05 a.m. –  Batticaloa to Colombo train at 6:10 a.m. and the Colombo to Talaimannar train scheduled at 8:50 a.m. have been cancelled.

The railway trade union action will continue for the fourth day, today.

Chairman of the Railway Guards’ Association, Janaka Fernando, said the trains imported from China will not operate until solutions are given to their problems.

When News1st made inquiries, Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, G.S. Vithanage said a committee has been appointed to look into the matter.

The Secretary said, recommendations of the committee have not yet been received, and that steps will be taken to solve the problems immediately after the recommendations are given.
