Workers across all hospitals in the Uva Province began strike action at 8 a.m. today January 26, against the failure to provide over-time pay for a period of two months.
Doctors, nurses, minor staff and administrative staff are engaged in this strike action.
Another token strike took place in line with the main trade union action with the display of banners, cut-outs and placards.Hospital operations were hampered as a result of this strike action and the patients experienced many difficulties.
Hospital workers say they have not been paid their due overtime allowances for several months.
Speaking to News 1st, Uva Province Health Secretary Anil Wijesiri said the due payments will be deposited to the bank accounts of the employees today.
