Citizens of Delhi woke up for a thick toxic smog today (November 7) with many tweets stating that Delhi is chocking with pollution.

The city was named as the world’s most polluted capital in 2014 by the World Health Organization with air quality levels far worse than Beijing.

City folk of Delhi has protested for the slow decision making of the government. They say that they already came across a similar weather condition in 2016, which forced the shut down of schools and disturbed the day to day activities.

“Emergency measure are an absolute necessity right now because the levels we are seeing are too horrendous,” – Anumita Roychowdhury, head of the Center for Science and Environment

Officials believe this situation was caused by firecrackers which were set off to celebrate Diwali, which they claim add to the toxic mix created by pollution from diesel engines, coal power plants and industrial emissions.

“High levels of moisture in the air and a lack of wind meant that the emissions has become trapped in the environment” – India Central Pollution Control Board.
