One person has died and 20 others have been  injured in a gun attack that took place on Tuesday, November 7, at a television station in Afghanistan, Kabul.

The ISIS has taken responsibility for the attack, in which a gunmen dressed as a police officers killed a security guard and opened fire at the staff. The attack was suppressed by the Afghan special forces after about two hours.

The Special Task Force unit had blasted a hole in the concrete wall compound and had entered the scene amongst the crack of gunfire.

One attacker was killed during the operation, while the other was killed at the compound entrance.

Threats to journalists

Afganistan by facts is proved to be one of the world’s most dangerous countries for journalists and media workers.

During the first six months of 2017 violence against journalists was seen when a local monitor recorded 73 cases, and increase 35% in comparison to 2016.

1. In May, two media workers were killed in a massive bomb in Kabul and the offices of Afghan broadcaster 1TV were also damaged.

2. In May, six were killed due to IS targeting Afghan State television building in the city of Jalalabad.

3. In 2016 seven members of the private Tolo Television were killed in a Taliban suicide bomb in Kabul.
