The girlfriend of the Las Vegas gunman who shot dead 58 people on Sunday has said she had no idea what her “kind, caring, quiet” partner was planning.

As President Trump and the first lady visited victims and first responders in Las Vegas, federal investigators interviewed Paddock’s girlfriend Marilou Danley, in Los Angeles, hoping she might be able to help solve the mystery of why Paddock opened fire on the festival crowd on Sunday and then killed himself.

In the statement, Danley said Paddock told her that he had “found a cheap ticket for me to the Philippines and that he wanted me to take a trip home to see my family.” While she was there, Paddock wired money for her to buy a house for herself and her family.

Her sisters earlier told Australian outlet 7News that Danley “was sent away… so that she will not be there to interfere with what he’s planning”.
