Foreign Minister Tilak Marapana who is currently on an official tour of India, met with Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in New Delhi earlier today.
A communique issued by the Sri Lankan High Commission in India states that Minister Marapana conveyed the greetings of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to Indian Prime Minister Modi.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Marapana had said that frequent high-level visits between the two nations had led to building close bilateral bonds between India and Sri Lanka.
In reply, Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi stated that Marapana’s first official visit after taking office as Foreign Minister, to India, reflected the close partnership between the two neighbours.
Modi renewed his assurances that India will stand by Sri Lanka’s forward march towards progress and prosperity,
Minister Tilak Marapana also met with Indian External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, and Indian National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval.
Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prasad Kariyawasam, accompanied the minister on his tour.
