Seventy-seven Indian fishermen handed over

Seventy-seven Indian fishermen who were arrested for fishing in Sri Lankan waters have been released and handed over to Indian authorities.

The navy stated that the fishermen were handed over to the Indian coast guard in the northern seas of Kankesanthurai.

A decision has been reached to hold another round of discussions with regard to the Indo-Lanka fisheries issue.

Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, W.M.M.R. Adhikari said the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has extended an official invitation for Sri Lanka to attend this discussion.

Accordingly, the third round of discussions on the Indo-Lanka fisheries issue will commence on August 20, in New Delhi.

The subject minister, several high-ranking officials at the Ministry of Fisheries and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Navy officials are scheduled to attend the discussion.
