A letter bomb that exploded at the headquarters of the IMF in Paris was sent from Greece, officials say.

An employee who opened  the letter was injured in the face and hands, and staff were evacuated. The letter bomb was addressed to the German finance minister, Wolfgang Schäuble.

Greek intelligence officials are working on the assumption that the blast in the French capital may have been orchestrated by an urban guerrilla group.

Head of the French capital’s police force Michel Cadot said the explosion was caused by a homemade device.

Cadot said there had been some recent telephone threats but it was not clear if these were linked to the incident at the IMF’s headquarters.

Meanwhile, President Francois Hollande said French authorities have said that they would do all they can to find those responsible for the incident.
