Chairman of the National Transport Commission M.A.P. Hemachandra said all licences which have been issued violate the requirements enumerated under section 37 of the National Transport Commission Act of 1991.
The Chairman stated that a decision has thereby been taken to re-issue the licences, conforming to proper procedure. Reportedly, over 125 buses transport passengers on highways in the country.
Meanwhile, Chairman M.A.P. Hemachandra added that a large number of buses which operate on highways do so, without any form of licence. According to the Chairman, a programme has been initiated to bring these buses which operate illegally under the law.
