SL Navy arrests Indian fishermen

Two Indian fishermen, who allegedly brought in a stock of Kerala ganja via boat into the country, have been arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy.

Police said 52 kilogrammes and 200 grammes of Kerala ganja were seized from the Indian fishermen who are aged 24 and 23.The fishermen are set to be produced before the Mallakam Magistrate’s Court today, January 12.

Meanwhile, the Koslanda Police were able to discover a 4.5 acre ganja cultivation in the Unakanda area Koslanda.The cultivation was found in a raid the Koslanda police conducted based on a tip-off it received.

Police said, three suspects were arrested during the raid adding that they are to be produced before the Bandarawela Magistrate’s Court.The suspects are residents of the Balaharuwa area.

Police went on to note that the ganja cultivation is worth over Rs. 40 million.
