How it all started…

Senior journalist and former Editor of Rivira newspaper Upali Tennekoon and wife were assaulted in January 2009 by ‘four men on motorcycles’. Later,  the suspects were put on parade before Tennekoon and his wife, where they identified the individual who assaulted them.

However, the Lanka Enews website had published a picture of the alleged suspect even before the suspect was produced on parade for the identification process.

The Warrant

Gampaha Magistrate Kavidya Nanayakkara has issued a warrant for the arrest of Sandaruwan Senadheera, the Editor of LankaEnews, and has referred the case to Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, an order has been issued to the Controller of Immigration or Emigration to arrest Sandaruwan at the Bandaranaike International Airport, if he returns to Sri Lanka.

Statement from the former Navy Commander

The CID has informed court that a statement had been recorded from Former Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda in connection to the assault of Upali Tennekoon.

The case has been postponed until December 9.
