Olympic and World Rugby officials gathered in Tokyo for the inaugural World Forum on Sport and Culture yesterday, October 20. Speakers highlighted the significance of Japan within the sporting world throughout the next four years.
The country is set to host both the 2019 Rugby World Cup and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, marking Japan as a major nation in the sporting world and in the global expansion of rugby as an international sport.
President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, reaffirmed his organisation’s dedication to ensuring that Tokyo 2020 will be a sustainable Olympic Games that will be greatly beneficial to Tokyo and Japan as a whole.
Japan will be the first ever Asian country to host the Rugby World Cup in 2019.
