Attorney-at-Law Namal Rajapaksa lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Committee Secretariat on Wednesday, October 19, on alleged irregularities which are said to have taken place during the construction of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant.
Even though Attorney-at-Law Namal Rajapaksa had initially attempted to lodge his complaint with the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division, his complaint had not been recorded.
Attorney-at-Law Namal Rajapaksa said, after Mahinda Rajapaksa came to power in 2005, a retired secretary named M.M.C. Ferdinando was appointed and this project had been handed over to him – and that corruption took place as this process was done without a proper tender procedure.
“These constant breakdowns are caused due to an unsuitable and dilapidated power plant”, he added.
He went on to note, M.M.C. Ferdinando had earned a massive amount of wealth through this project and that he owns four houses in Australia.
Attorney-at-Law Namal Rajapaksa requested that an investigation be conducted, without any interference nor influence, and that the law be implemented.
